9 Now The Hawk had been First Speaker for three
seasons, when excited messengers rushed into Northern. "The Golden Ones
have come!" they cried. "They have come out of the mountains north of
Eastern. The Prince of a land called Zo comes to visit The Hawk. He
brings treasure beyond belief, and, the good will of his people!"
10 The Hawk immediately sent messengers to greet The Zoans. A few days
later their caravan marched into Northern…at its head, a handsome
looking young man dressed in bright clothes, and covered in jewelry.
The people cheered as they passed, but many also laughed, for they had
never seen a man so brightly adorned.
11 The Prince entered The First Speaker's House and fell to his knees,
before The Hawk. "Oh,great warrior," he cried, "and leader of
these wondrous people, I give you thanks for the gracious hospitality
your people have shown my party, and I bring you gifts from my father
The King of our land. All of Zo has heard of your wondrous deeds, and
sings your praises! It is their greatest wish that when the
Road between our lands is completed, that you lift yourself up, come
over the mountains as you did in your Dreams, and come to visit us
again!"
12 The Prince clapped his hands and servants entered bearing chests and
rolls of fabric, beautiful singing birds in cages, bottles of
sweet-smelling oils, many wondrous skins unknown to The Children of
Spirit.
13 The chests were opened, revealing beautiful rings, necklaces,
bracelets, all of gold and silver, adorned with every precious stone.
The Hawk looked in wonderment and shook his head! "The fabrics and
beautiful skins," he complimented, "I can accept, but all this jewelry
I cannot use. Among my people men and many women do
