manner. "That young man adores you. He worships
you almost like a god. The way he looks at you sometimes frightens me.
You do not think he wants to bed with you?"
21 The Hawk laughed. "No," he answered, "he is like a child with a
favorite hero. Yes, he looks upon me greatly, but he does not look upon
me with lust. As you say, it is worship. When the excitement dies down
a bit I'll speak with him. He must understand, I am only a man; that it
is not I that am wondrous, but The Lords I serve."
22 Mountain Glory knocked her mate onto the bed and fell on top of him.
"I'll argue that," she said, "every day, every hour! There is no one as
wondrous as you!"
23 "You are blinded," laughed The Hawk, "by your love, but your
blindness fills my heart with joy!"
24 As The Hawk had said, when things were quieter he had a long talk
with Bright Star. The young man assured he understood all The Hawk said, but The
Hawk wasn't sure.
25 As they sat in the second day after The Zoans' arrival, Bright Star
told the incredible story how they came to be in The Land of Spirit.
26 "About four seasons ago," he began, "one of our army patrols came
upon a group of your people. They had become lost in the mountains and
wandered for months, trying to find their way out. They had traveled
through a treacherous pass, over a ledge so narrow they had to move
with their backs to it, dragging their belongings behind them. But
finally they had journeyed down into the valley where our soldiers had
found them.
27 Almost all their possessions were gone, except for their books of
your Holy Writings, and, a book about you. They were brought to the
capitol. I met them, and had their leader teach me your language. After
I read the book about you, I told my father, 'Surely
