Chapter Nine
So a few weeks later,with all the reinforcements The Hawk could muster,
they slipped across the river at Eastern and met the enemy in the open
fields. The results were not as good as they had been against The Epons.
2 The Frns had more room to maneuver. After the first two charges they
managed to stay out of the wind, and the wind here was fickle. Half way through the battle it decided to
die completely. They still, finally, drove The Frns back, but not far
enough.
3 Half way down the road to Southern the enemy regathered and held
them...they had gained some ground, but not enough. On the western side
of the lake things were not much better.
4 The enemy broke here, quicker. The Trns were more afraid of The
Children of Spirit's tricks having had bitter experience so many times.
They broke from the field after their earthworks were breached, and fled south to
Canal. They had had time to repair the city's defenses, and, even
improve them.
5 Here, again, The Children of Spirit were held. The Hawk again
considered bringing his forces home from Zo, but his Warlocks agreed with him. Such a decision would mean
disaster.
6 "The Trns," commented The Hawk, "must be stretched to their limit.
They have so many men in the field. Their cities must be virtually defenseless. If we could get just a
small army into their land, cut their supply lines,we could in time,
break them." But he knew that was an impossible hope.
7 He had taken all of his reserves he dared touch. He couldn't even
send a patrol to Tr, let alone an army!
8 One day as The Hawk pondered what to do next, his aide came in. "There's a Swift
