houses just inside the wall on this side. We'll
need the material to build barricades. If they get over the wall, the
streets won't be open to them. We'll make sure they fight for every
inch of the city.
79 Along the walls themselves we'll build secondary walls, outside of
their bow people's range. Building their ramp is going to take them
time. We have time to prepare. Put everyone to work- the young, and,
the old. We need every pair of hands."
80 So it now became a race as to who could work faster, The Children of
Spirit, or, their enemies. The ramp grew daily. The Worm swung back and
forth slowly and steadily raising the ramp higher. Swift Deer noticed
that they built up the outside of each level first, before they filled
in the middle, and one day as The Worm was about halfway up the wall,
he noticed something. They raised it a few inches each time and put
rocks under it, then, raised it again. For a few minutes each time
there was a gap under the leading edge.
81 He grabbed his assistant. "Listen," he cried, "we need some sections
of drainage pipe and some
rain catches.....about three of them. Get some carpenters. They have to
build something for me. Then, go out into the city and gather every
drop of cooking oil you can find. I want it all; every last drop in the
city! Get to work!"
82 By the next day Swift Sword was ready. He watched the Worm
carefully. He waited until it was lifted, then his people pushed a
wooden shield out over the edge of the wall. Men rushed forward,
slipped the drainage pipes with the rain catches on top into place.
Behind them came other men carrying huge pots of hot oil.
