they sleep the deep sleep they be rendered barren.
140 Never again shall any of your men give fourth seed. Never again
shall any of your women burn with fire and bring forth children.
For those who wish they may surrender their younger children, those too
young to remember their parents, and they will be raised by others
never knowing they are Tian having another people's heritage instead.
Never again will any man say 'I am a Ti. My ancestry goes back here
fifty generations.'
141 No longer is this city called Ti. Now it is called New, for the
people here shall be new. For after you are healed from the surgeon's
work, I shall scatter you to every city of my land You will die not
within your own walls, but within the walls of others.''
142 And when The Tians heard these things, they wept and wailed, for
they were proud of their heritage, and knew, also, that their
punishment was far less than they deserved, and there would be no
reprieve. They would receive no other mercy. But they were brave
people, and when their time came, they surrendered themselves, and in
the weeks that followed, ox carts rolled from the city toward The Land
of Spirit.
143 Where a wheel maker was needed, an ox cart would end its journey.
When a potter was needed, one would stop there, until finally Ti was an
empty city occupied only by a garrison. The Hawk would give possessions
in the city to veterans of the war.
144 It would live again, but slowly its past would be forgotten,
swallowed up by the memories of time. Only a few learned scholars would
ever know this city was once called Ti.
145 There was one bit of mercy though, The Hawk gave. For as The Trn
troops returned from Fr some Tians were with them.
146 Their War Leader came
to The Hawk and fell at his feet.
