the back of his hand, that can defend it against
any enemy if need be."
153 "Well, you've got him!" the Giant laughed, "as soon as I can get a
replacement."
154 "The First Speaker," announced Swift Deer, "thought that might be a
problem. So he sent one with me!"
155 The Giant was about to say something when his aide rushed in the
door. "High Damon!" the man screamed, "Mad Cat's been stabbed just down
the street!"
156 The Giant rushed out the door with his guests behind him. A few
minutes later they found their friend sitting on an ox cart with one of
his men holding a bandage to his side. "Dammit!" he snapped, "Don't
make so much fuss! It's only a scratch! Tie that bandage down, and find
that fool boy!"
157 "What boy?" asked Great Mountain.
158 "A Trn," Mad Cat told him, "just walked up to me, said 'hello,' and
stabbed me. I managed to swing around so the knife didn't get a deep
bite, but he meant business! He took to the roofs, my men are after
him!"
159 They heard a commotion on the roofs above them. "Dammit, he's
getting away!" someone called. "If he gets down into the marketplace,
we'll never find him!"
160 Running Deer's son turned to Great Mountain. "See that banner
pole?" he cried. Great Mountain nodded. "Make me fly!" the young man
instructed. He backed off a few paces, ran forward, put his foot in
Great Mountain's hands, the Giant hurled him upward. He caught the
pole, swung around on it, and disappeared onto the rooftop. "Good!"
smiled the Giant, "Damn good!"
