from sweet worship, and from our own wills. This
is the second Power I was speaking of. To bring the dust storm that
saved your people, thousands and thousands of us changed the course of
the wind. It exhausted us. It will be months before we can do anything
like that again. That is using the first Power that I spoke of. Do you understand now?"
30 "I think I do," said Red Cat, "though they are such hard things to
believe. But what I do understand is that through my carelessness I
have made you use much of your precious strength that could have been
used for better things. I was not worthy, I have done bad things. Why
did you not simply let me die? A better man would have taken my place."
31 A large man came down from the steps. "Sometimes," he comforted,
"before we learn the Truth we do things that when we see The Light, we
regret. But we cannot look backward, we must look forward, take that
that we have learned, and use it to benefit all that live. I, among all
men, know this. My Soul was filled with darkness until I was shown
pity,
and kindness. Then, I learned The Glory of The Light, and sought after
it.
32 Do not look to the past, look to the future, that is what I was
taught. Forget what you were, and concentrate on what you will be.
Today you are a new man. If you take The Light, you will rise above The
Darkness, and you will shine like a star."
33 "You torture me, Lords!" Red Cat cried, "I used to believe, I used
to believe so much. I was taught to believe. Then....."
34 A woman rose and came down. Seeing her bearing, Red Cat stopped
speaking as she approached.
