THE BOOK OF TRUSTING FOX
Chapter One
Now in the 1,092 Season From The Beginning, a First Speaker was
elected by the name of Trusting Fox. And if he had one fault it was his
trusting character. For he believed everyone, and had a hard time
making judgments. For he could not tell who spoke truthfully and who
did not.
2 But he was a good man in his way, and strived to do good for his
people. He had some wise Councilmen who helped him make wise judgments.
And he had a good High Warlock named Bold Fox, a great descendant of
his namesake, who gave him wise counsel on military matters.
3 One day as Trusting Fox sat in Council, a wise Witch called Whistling
Dove came to him. "Lord," he announced, "I have made a great invention
that will revolutionize the hauling of freight and people. But I need
your support to make it work."
4 "What is this invention?" asked Trusting Fox.
5 "I call it a locomotive," the man continued. "It is a steam engine
like those used to pump water, but much more efficient. It is mounted
on wheels and may pull many carts behind it. I actually have one
working at an old mine a few miles to the west of the city. We are
already using it to haul ore from the mines to the smeltery of the
village.
6 If you see my invention, I'm sure you will grant me the funds to
build a railroad from Northern to Western. The economic benefits will
be tremendous."
7 "If what you say is true," agreed Trusting Fox, "I will surely
support your project. I will come
