56 The man held out his arms in a gesture that
Screaming Hawk understood to mean peace, friendship. But he didn't know
how he understood that, and he didn't know how he heard the man's
words, because he wasn't making a sound.
57 "You plan," the man continued, "in the morning, to do battle, yes?"
58 "Yes," answered Screaming Hawk, "as soon as there's enough light."
59 "If you had light sooner, you would attack sooner, and stop the
suffering of the female ones?" the stranger continued.
60 "We would," agreed Screaming Hawk.
61 "With those that do such terrible things, what will you do?"
inquired the Stranger.
62 "We will end their existence," explained Screaming Hawk.
63 "It is sad you must do this, but we suppose it is right. To let
them continue to exist would cause the possibility that they would do
the same someplace else. It would be nice if there was another way, but
