83 The sentries hurried off. Screaming Hawk told his men everything The
Visitor had said, especially the warning about the light. "Remember, if
you ever want to see again, don't look at it! Make everyone understand
that.” The others nodded their understanding and hurried off.
84 It was only a short time before midnight, and they wanted to be in
position and ready, when the lights came. They crept closer to the
village.
At this distance they could hear crying and whimpering from many of the
houses.
85 "Only a little while longer," Screaming Hawk told himself. He
listened carefully, and a little before midnight heard the whisper
again, and looked up. In the sky above was a huge shape, like a giant,
round shield. On its edges hundreds of tiny lights of different colors
danced. It's size awed him, for it was as big as a city.
86 Suddenly its bottom lit up; hundreds of lights in the shape of a
cross suddenly lit. The light was at first, dim, then, all around the
outer edge of the shield more lights came on.
87 Instantly, Screaming Hawk looked away. Drawing his pistol, he raised
it skyward. "Charge!" he called, "Charge!"
88 With him in the lead his people poured across the fields and into
the village. As he did so, a humorous thought struck Screaming Hawk.
"It looks like The Oneness symbol," he said , "the lights are in the
shape of their sign!"
89 Suddenly the light was bright; even not looking up at it, it hurt
your eyes. But Screaming Hawk paid no heed to it. He reached the first
