" no! We could not use such a weapon. I lost my
whole family to The Black Death. I watched the sores come and their
skin rot. As much as I hate the enemy, we could not use such a horrible
weapon!
16 The man opened his shirt and exposed his chest. The round marks left
by the disease were all over it. "How could we do this to anyone?" he
pleaded. He closed his shirt back up.
17 "Bring the woman in," ordered Bold Fox. When she was before them,
Bold Fox was surprised to see such a beautiful woman. "We thank you for
com- ing," he announced, "but we do not believe we can use the Black
Death as a weapon. How is it you are experimenting with such a horrible
thing, anyway?"
18 "I am trying to develop," the Healer explained, "a means of fighting
the disease...more rightly, preventing it. I have found that people
that have had the disease once cannot get it again, and I have wondered
why. The only possible answer is, there must be something in their
blood that destroys the germs, something the body learns to make when
it first has the disease.
19 So I have grown the germs, killed them, and injected them into my
animals. After a while I exposed the animals to the disease; along with
animals I did NOT inject. The injected animals do NOT get the disease,
the uninjected ones do, and die. I think soon, I will be able to do
this with people."
20 "That would be an incredible thing," praised Bold Fox, "a way of
stopping the Black Death! You would easily become the most famous
Healer in history!"
21 A young man with the Healer stepped forward. "My Lady," he
interrupted, "if they won't
