burning, their smoke rising skyward. On other
hills in several directions he saw smoke, also. "I've got a feeling,"
he thought, "The Oneness is very unhappy this morning in many, many places!"
140 His thoughts were true. All along the edges of their territory The
Worshipers of The Goat God were raiding. Not one man did they spare,
but the women and children they brought with them. The gold and silver,
fine clothes, carpets and other riches their masters had acquired
through their suffering, they brought with them.
141 Anything they couldn't carry they burned. The Worshipers of The
Goat God were leaving The Land of The Oneness, and the bitterness of
their leaving The Oneness would long remember.
142 The captured women cried for the safety of themselves and their
children, but they were treated with honor. They were not taken as
slaves, but as wives, and never could they claim mistreatment. Most did
not even consider escape. They were better off with these men, then
they had been with their husbands!
