18 And as The Voice said, it
came to pass. Gray Deer first became a member of The Church, and
then a Speaker. In his free time he administered the widows and
orphan's fund for a local Temple. Between studying, working at
his father's factory, doing his Temple work, and sometimes speaking in
the marketplace with The Voice, he became very weary. He had little
time for his mates and children, or even sleep.
19 "We must begin to build your Circle," The
Voice announced one day, "to gather your Ten. There is a female Warlock
in the city named Bright Sword. I have invited her to sit with
us. There is also another woman, Tree Blossom Dog, a Healer's
assistant at the hospital who has approached me. But we need
another male to balance The Circle, a special worker, someone who will
be loyal to you, and take some of the work off you."
20 "That man I won't mind meeting!" answered
Gray Deer. "He sounds like exactly the fellow I need!"
21 "You may not think so later!" said
The Voice. As he poured some hot broth, a mischievous smile crossing
his face, "You may not think so later!"
