The Voice looked at the man.  "Tell me," he commanded, "what has been happening here?"
"The master of this house," the man told him, "had a beautiful daughter of ten seasons.  One day she was playing games with the other children, when she slipped from a log and struck her head upon a rock.  I was there myself, and picked her up.  There was no life in her. Her heart did not beat.  She had no breath.
I was carrying her to the house when suddenly she jerked in my arms.  She felt like she weighed twice her weight.  She spoke to me in a harsh, cruel voice, saying, 'Put me down, you fool!  I am fine.'
I insisted that I should carry her to the house, but she was so insistent that I put her down!  Her father came and assured himself she was all right.  She appeared to be, but she was not, Lord.  She was different.
She had always been good to the servants before, now she was cruel, and despisable.  Her servant girls, who were always her good friends and companions she began to bitterly abuse.  She began to act very strangely, with her brother.
One day the servant girls came to the master saying their mistress had made them take off their clothes and know each-other before her.  The master of the house called the girls liars, and sent them away.
Then, the animals began to be found dead...in the house, at first.  The first one was the girl's dog, her favorite. He was found in a storeroom, his throat ripped open, every drop of his blood gone, and his heart ripped out.
Then, the dogs, the cats, all around the house...every two days another would be found; always the same...their blood gone, their hearts ripped out, but always male animals.
Then, one morning the young  master was found in his room.  He had hung himself. He left a note saying that he had shamed himself before The Lord, that he had known his sister and could not live with his shame.
'Beware,' the letter warned,  'she is evil.  She will destroy us all.'
The master confronted his daughter, but she swore innocence, that she was guiltless.  'My brother went mad,' she argued, 'how could he accuse me of such things?'
Her father wanted to believe but he was finally in doubts.
One night he was awoken.  His daughter had climbed out her window naked, crept through the yard, and was now in the stock pens.
The master came out to see.  They found her with one of the rams.  It lay dead, and she was still eating its heart.  When they tried to grab her, she fought viciously, and spoke in a man's voice. 'Fools!' she screamed, 'You cannot stop me!'
They bound her and the master ordered this prison built.  When it was completed, she was put in it.  And though they have tried to dress her, since the day of her capture she rips off any clothes put on her.  She acts like an animal.
The master used to have regular guards, but she lured one into the prison one night and let him know her, then ripped out his throat, and ate his heart.  Since then, only eunuchs guard her.
Many have said she should be killed, but the master cannot bring himself. This is how it has been, Lord, for the last season and a half."
"I wish to see her," requested The Voice.  "Perhaps I can drive this evil from her."
"My own priest has tried," came a voice from behind them.  "Do you really think you can do better, Lord of the Spirits?"  The Voice turned to see an older man approaching.  He realized this must be the master of the house.
"I can only try, sir," he answered. "The Lords have great power over things of The Darkness, as do The Priests of The One.  Perhaps this thing is more sensitive to Their Power, than the power your priest possesses."
"I am not of your kind," asked the owner. "Why should you help me?"
"A Thing of The Darkness," answered The Voice, "is an enemy to us all, and must be destroyed.  The Lords protect ALL CHILDREN.  They do not ask to whose house they belong."
The master of the house reached down and opened the gate.  "You are welcome on my land, "the man invited, "but please have your guards wait here."
The Voice nodded to his companions and he and the master of the house approached the prison.  "Keep him away, father!" came a voice from within. "Keep him away!  He's evil!  He'll hurt me!"
