100 The woman looked at the bed. "I'll obey if
you want," she pleaded, "but would you mind if we didn't tonight? It
may sound ridiculous, but I'd like a little
time,"
101 "It's alright," agreed Bullet. As he turned out the light, he felt
the woman's hand touch his.
102 "This is what freedom is, isn't it," she whispered, "the right to
say no, and have that no respected, not to be afraid of punishment?"
103 "Yes," agreed Bullet, "that's part of freedom."
104 It wasn't long before they were both asleep, but it was a sleep
neither of them were used to. For they were plunged into a strange
Dream.
105 Bullet found himself walking through a fog. He heard someone cry
"Wait for me!" and turned around to see the woman following him. "Where
are we?" she cried.
106 "I don't know," answered Bullet. "I read something about this. I
think we're in The Veil of Tears, the passage between the World of The
Dead and the World of The Living."
107 The woman came closer to him and took his hand. "I'm frightened,"
she said.
108 "You're not the only one!" assured Bullet.
109 Suddenly he heard a voice. "This is sector six. We've got a bad
one. He's just coming out of Transition. I don't think he's got much
chance of making it. Stability is nearly zero, and I've got a couple of
live ones roaming around over here. Any instructions?"
