169 They were destroying The Hood operation in that area, and The Hoods
were getting desperate. A group of at least forty men
attacked Bright Serpent's home and a small battle was fought in its
defense.
170 To everyone's surprise, five carloads of Guardians suddenly arrived
and joined the defenders. When it was over, only two of The Hoods
survived.
171 "You'd better take them," suggested the Officer leading the
Guardians. "If we put them in jail they'll mysteriously die or escape
within an hour. As you can see, some of us are on YOUR side. We can
give you lists of both honest and dishonest officers. Let us help."
