80 No sooner did the Driver have the weapons, then he attacked
viciously, blow after blow ringing off The Young Speaker's shield. "This way," the Driver instructed.
"Keep him moving but you've got to be careful. He's extremely tricky."
81 As if emphasizing the man's statement, The Young Speaker twisted his
blade around in a quick flowing motion and brought the point up under
the man's chin. "Kill!" he cried.
82 The Driver backed away and bowed. "Just once," he muttered, "I'd
like to beat you ...just once!"
83 The Young Speaker laughed. "Not THIS lifetime! Maybe next time!"
84 They went at it again. Bullet and the Driver switched off from time
to time, but they kept at it most of the morning. The Young Speaker was
getting tired, but he insisted on continuing. "You can bet," he
insisted, "he'll give me no chance to rest tomorrow."
85 "Where did you ever learn to do this?" asked Bullet.
86 "My second father," explained The Young Speaker, "was National
Champion three years in a row, and came in third at The World! He
taught me every trick he knew. He said the schools should still use
fencing instead of rifle drill. There's nothing quite like the feel of
a sword in your hand. Our friend in the city apparently doesn't know I
can use one of these. I think he's going to have a nasty surprise!"
