70 "Things are different now," argued Bullet.
71 "Are they?" sneered the man.
72 Suddenly a strange Light filled the room, and a voice spoke, saying,
"Bullet, have him come to work for you." The Light suddenly disappeared
and Bullet looked around, stunned.
73 "In The Name of The Lords," the man screeched, "what was that?"
74 "That," gasped Bullet, "was the voice of The Young Speaker."
75 The man looked horrified. "But he's....dead! " he stuttered.
76 "Right," agreed Bullet.
77 The man moved a little further back on the bed. "What did he mean,"
he stuttered, "have me work for you?"
78 "I run The Black Watch," explained Bullet. "You must have read about
that."
79 "Who hasn't?" the man answered. "They're becoming a legend already.
Some people say they're machines, others say they're the living dead.
They're all the Guards around here talk about. ME work for THEM? You're
kidding! They're Guardian, the BEST Guardian!"
80 "They're just ordinary men," argued Bullet, "like you and me. Some
of them don't have much time left in this world, and they're doing the
best they can to leave it a little better than we found it. The rest of
us just believe in what we're doing ...trying to do a good job.
81 We have secret villages in military districts all over the world.
Each day our planes fly in and out, carrying our people to their
assignments. We work forty hours on, twenty hours off. We've found that
to be best. While you're in the field, you stay in barracks near the
local stations.
The Hoods would never reach your family there, and when your children
are ready to leave, we can give them whole new identities, even make
them look different!
