door, and two Guards entered. Two men in white
uniforms with a stretcher stood behind them. "In the bathroom," she
told the Stretcher Bearers. In a few minutes they had their passenger
and were hurrying towards the hospital, bewildered looks on their faces.
174 The Guard turned to Bullet. "I'm going with him," she commented.
"Someone has to stay and give the children their supper."
175 "I'll be more than glad to," agreed Bullet.
176 When everyone had left, the children emerged from their room. "What
did you do to him," the girl asked, "and, my mother?"
177 "Your mother will explain later," answered Bullet, "right now, sit
down and have something to eat."
178 They ate in silence which was finally broken when the young man
looked up. "Won't they just take it again?" he asked.
179 "I don't think they can," explained Bullet. "According to The Law,
you can't be punished twice for the same crime."
180 "It must be fantastic," gasped the boy, "to have The Power like
that! How long have you been able to heal?"
181 "This was the first time today," explained Bullet, "and I don't
know if it will ever happen again. It terrifies me every time it does.
And the first time, it hurt, but I think that was because the person
being healed was fighting it."
182 "Wow!" cried the boy.
183 "Take what?" asked the girl.
184 "You know what," said the boy, "what they took off from him. What
I've got, and what you haven't."
185 The girl nearly choked on her pudding and suddenly looked at
Bullet, wide-eyed. "Can that happen?" she asked.
186 "Apparently," answered Bullet, "there can be no limit to The Lords
Powers when Their Love is strong enough."
