30 The Young Speaker walked over to the girl and
spoke to her for several minutes. Finally she walked back over with him to Screaming Boar. "When do you want the week
to start?" she asked.
31 "Next First Day," stammered Screaming Boar. The girl nodded.
32 "Here's my address," she continued. "My lessons are usually done by
five o' clock. I can go out after that, but I have to be back by seven-
fifty. Free day I can stay out until eight-thirty. Agreed?"
33 "Agreed," stammered Screaming Boar. He and the girl walked off
together discussing some things they might do.
34 "Are you out of your mind?" Thundering Hawk asked The Young Speaker.
"You know what he's going to do to her the minute he gets her alone
somewhere."
35 "I don't think so," smiled The Young Speaker. "He'll do nothing that
she won't permit."
36 "You have more faith than I do!" sighed Thundering Hawk.
37 "Only for now," agreed The Young Speaker, "only for now."
38 They enjoyed the rest of the party. When it broke up they all headed
home feeling better than they had in years.
39 The week passed quietly, then one evening as they were walking home
Screaming Boar met them on the street. "Can I talk to you alone?" he
asked The Young Speaker. They
walked a little ahead of the other boys. "Look," he began, "I've
applied to start school again next cycle and I've got a part-time job.
Did you want me to do that?" The Young Speaker nodded. "I'm also
going back to Temple, but I'd like to alter our bargain a little."
40 "In what way?" The Young Speaker inquired.
