round. For the fourth time he fired and The Young
Speaker stopped and looked straight up at him. "You know," he laughed,
"you can keep trying all right, but you're not going to hit me!"
31 Bullet put the rifle down and quickly fled his hiding place. He was
almost out of the auditorium when he stopped. "Damn!" he said, "I've
got to know what he was juggling, even if I lose my head over it. I've
got to know! It can't be what I think it was."
32 He made his way down through the auditorium and approached the
stage. A Guardian approached him, but The Young Speaker called out,
"Officer, let that man come up."
33 Bullet approached the podium. The Young Speaker picked up four
objects from its top and put them in his hand. "Have a seat," he
instructed, "we'll talk later."
34 Somebody guided Bullet to a seat and he sat down. He didn't even
object when somebody put handcuffs on him. All he did was stare at the
four spent bullets in his hands.
35 When The Young Speaker finished talking, they went backstage to a
dressing room. Bullet was
sat in a chair and people started asking him questions. He answered
hardly without thinking, telling them everything they wanted to know.
36 "Come on," ordered a Guardian, "you're going down to the station."
37 "What for?" asked The Young Speaker.
38 "Attempted murder," answered The Guardian.
39 "Can you prove it?" asked The Young Speaker.
40 "We've got the rifle," explained The Guardian, "we've got the spent
bullets, and he admits he shot at you. What more do we need?"
41 "None of the bullets hit me," remarked The Young Speaker. "They
