Ting Gon ordered his communications officer to arrange landing sites for the different ships.  He had the Warlock's shuttle come to the capital.  He left the fleet in charge of his sub commander and went down himself.  He soon found himself in delightful conversation with this tall stranger.  Like The Krackens, these Humes were bigger than his people, but they were far friendlier.
Ting Gon found himself saying "Raul, I do not see why your people would want the lower tenth of our world.  There's nothing down there but ice and snow!  We only have a few science stations down there, and the leftover bases where we built our ships, which the people want to get out of as quickly as possible.  I am quite sure the council will agree to your proposal.  But why not choose a better place?  If you want to bring vast numbers of your people here from your home world, from your mother nation, they would be welcomed.  But why down there in the cold and dark?"
"It's my peoples' way," Raul answered. "we have found that even when we enter a place under the best circumstances, if we take prime land after a while resentment grows.  It is best we take areas the natives do not really want.  In that way very little resentment grows, and though we will develop thriving colonies there, the natives won't get upset.  I am sure our people will be going to and fro.  There are many beautiful places on your world that they will love to visit.  There will be a vibrant exchange of culture, as has happened on many of the other worlds where we have established colonies.  The native populations keep their ways, we keep ours.  And because we're more or less separate we get along with each other. "
"You are a wise people," Raul answered.

They had been walking while they were talking and had come to the great square at the center of the city.  Raul noticed cook pots, large ones, being set up, and tables.  "What's going on?" he asked.
"Oh, we're getting ready for the celebration," Ting Gon explained.  "Tonight we will cook the children of The Kracken prisoners and make the mothers watch as our mothers were sometimes made to watch as their children were cooked and eaten.  Then tomorrow night we will cook and eat the mothers, the night after that, the half bloods.  The final night we will execute those who collaborated with The Krackens, and then our world will be pure.  The curse of Kracken will forever be removed from our blood.  We will be free of all traces of them."
He looked to Raul, and though he was not used to human expressions he could tell he was deeply distressed.  Finally he spoke.
"My dear friend, and I feel we are friends already, I must tell you if you do this thing my people will not be able to stay.  We are warriors.  We fight warriors.  We do not torture women and children.  We do not kill the innocent.  Republic Law would not permit us to be part of such a thing, or to associate with people that did such a thing!  Let me suggest an alternative..  Give The Kracken captives over to us, and, the half bloods.  We will take them away to another colony where they can live out their lives and be no threat to you or, anyone else again.  And let us review the cases of those you accuse of collaboration.  As impartial outsiders we could suggest what ones should be given clemency, and, what ones you have every right to execute. The ones that do not deserve execution, if you wish, we will also remove, and see to it that they never have any contact with any of your people again.  Do not feel that we do not understand how great is your desire for vengeance.  But the great race does not seek vengeance, it seeks justice.  You and your people might think this is what you want at the moment, but I tell you now, if you do this thing it will weigh heavy on your hearts, and in time you will sorrow greatly."
Ting Gon stared at his companion.  "I do not feel," he finally managed, "that what we would be doing would be unjust.  But I definitely want the alliance with your people.  If this would drive a wedge between us I would reconsider.  What you say does make sense!  But I cannot decide such a thing myself.  I will summon the council, let you speak to them, then if they approve I think the people will accept better.  Go to the quarters I have provided for you.  Rest.  I will summon you when all is ready. "
He left Raul and summoned the council.  Many of them did not want to come, but his insistence persuaded them.
