Chapter 82

A golden voiced recruit began to sing.

"From the shores of far off northern lands,
to the sunny tropic seas,
First to fight for right and freedom,
first to keep our honor free!
Well The Speaker said I need the best
that the world has ever seen,
that can fight for right both day and night,
from The Air, The Land, and Sea!

We may come out of the roaring sky,
or from the blazing sea,
But when it comes to fight we'll do it right!
We're The Air, The Land, And Sea!
Now, we're the finest of the very fine!
We're the bravest of the brave!
When it comes to fight they'll know the might
of The Air The Land, and Sea!

From the shores of
far off northern lands,
to the sunny tropic seas!
First to fight for right
and freedom,
first to keep our honor free!
We are proud to serve the title
of The Air, The Land, and Sea!"

As the young man began to sing it again everyone on the plane joined in, including Samuel. When the plane finally landed everybody got up. Samuel took his jacket and cap from the overhead compartment. As he donned them several of the young recruits looked at him in awe. The color of his cap, his collar, and his cuffs told of the campaigns he had fought in, the ribbons he wore showed the honors he had been given. But most of all they noticed his rank insignia and the circle on his left shoulder with the blue, brown and green bars.
"Oh, holy Lords!" one of the recruits muttered, "Yes!"
Samuel got off the plane and was escorted to a car. He saw dozens of buses in the parking lot, the young recruits from many different planes gathering around them. "First cadets," his driver remarked, "busses are waiting for the last of t hem just coming in now."
"Continue on to the base," Samuel ordered, "take my son with you. Tell the training cadry to form up inside the gate and to be ready for the color guard. Snap to it, man!"
"Yes sir!" the fighting person answered.
"Oh!" Samuel continued, "I also want the band. Have them form up a quarter mile outside the gate."
"Sorry, sir," the driver answered, "our band hasn't arrived yet. We don't have one!"
Samuel saw a young man headed for a school bus carrying a large case which could only be a tuba. "Go!" he snapped. He ran up to the school bus and found the bandmaster, explained the situation and asked if his students could play The Marine Corps Hymn.
"As sharp as The Corps' own band!" the man answered. "We would be honored sir! And there won't be any need of fifty dollars apiece. We know the way. We'll be waiting when you get there."
"Thank you!" Samuel acknowledged, and hurried to the busses that were just finishing loading. The warlock he approached snapped to attention as he arrived.
"Greetings, sir!" he cried, "May I be of assistance, sir?"
"I'm your new commanding officer," Samuel answered, "Request permission to take command of convoy."
"I recognize you, sir," the officer answered. "Of course sir! We're just about ready to move out, sir."
"Good!" Samuel snapped back. "Tell the other drivers that when we pull over they are to pull over and discharge their passengers."
"You heard the man!" the officer snapped, "Transmit those orders!"
The driver quickly got on his phone. It was quite a ride across the beautiful countryside. The bus finally pulled over a quarter of a mile from the base's gate. The school band and the color guard were formed across the road.
