The general argued he had done nothing wrong, that everything he had done was within his right as a military commander. The court martial board, however, disagreed, and sentenced him and his fellow officers to death. The Coms threatened to kill thousands of Republic prisoners if their officers were executed. The First Speaker made it very clear that if this was to happen when the fighting was over, the families of the Com leaders would answer for it ten to one! The Com officers were executed and no Republic prisoners were harmed.
The war dragged on, and for a long time Samuel and his forces helped hold the line. Then they were asked to go someplace else.
