"No!" the chairman snapped. "It's already been voted that we consider it. Let's give it fair consideration! We will announce our decision at our next meeting. Let's discuss it."
Four of the council members rose and walked out. "Well!" the chairman remarked, "I guess there doesn't need to be any discussion." He looked to his associates. "Are you all in favor of this petition?" he asked.
They all raised their hands. "I, also," he remarked. "I would have preferred a unanimous vote, but considering our associates will not even discuss I see no reason to hold this decision as the majority approves the county will seize these right of ways, by eminent domain. It does hereby order that all barriers that have been erected be removed, and those that use the snowmobile trails or all terrain vehicles during the summer be allowed to do so, and that those operating the resort not interfere with them as long as they are on the declared rights of way. We do this to keep the peace, and to recognize the rights of ALL individuals."
The snomobilers screamed for joy and gathered around Dinsmore, slapping his back. As he was driving home he turned on the news.
"I've just received a call," the reporter was saying "from the charming leader of the Spiritist community on the mountain. She has announced that because the county has stolen their land her people are calling for a general boycott of all businesses in the county by her people, until such time as the county returns their property. She is also sending a petition to The National Speaker asking him to request of all the members of their religion that they boycott Vermont until such time that the people of Vermont return the property. It looks like the snowmobilers got their way, but it's going to hurt a lot of people.
I know this station is going to be hard pressed to stay operating if the Spiritist businesses in this area stop advertising with us. An awful lot of trouble so a few people can play in the snow! Little children and their toys!"
Dinsmore made a mental note to call the station manager in the morning. The man did not appreciate his call. He did not appreciate it at all!
