the old man survived he'll go back there. Ben, you finish up here, Fife rest easy!"
The sheriff got in the cruiser and headed for the main highway. As he stopped at the resort's gate he felt something in his shirt pocket. He opened it and pulled out an index card. On one side was written "On Thursday evening next, at 7 o'clock I'll be having an intimate dinner at the Riverview in Clifton. If you should happen by your company would be pleasant. That miserable son of a bitch." The sheriff smiled and slipped the card back in his pocket.
Old man Moore had reached home. When they finally got to his house they found him hanging from one of the beams, a note pinned to his chest read "The damned bastards have taken everything I love from me. I can't live in this damned world any more!"
The sheriff shook his head. "Damned drugs!" he cursed, "What the damned drugs do to people!"
The Spiritists had made more enemies in the community, but they had also made friends. The sheriff still didn't know his exact feelings for them but he didn't dislike them as much as he had.
He tapped the index card in his pocket. "Thursday night," he muttered, "Thursday night!"
