Her brother laughed and shook his head. "Don't mess with The Spir, sis!" he remarked. "Mother would go berserk if she thought you were going to join."
"You can be friends with them," Cheryl answered, "and not join their faith. I like the way the boys respect the girls."
"Honey," Catherine put in, "if he gets you alone he'll do the same thing with you any other boy would."
"Not if I say no!" Cheryl answered.
Her friend looked at her and shook her head. "Damn!" she cried, "We'd better get to our lockers and get to our classes!"
They all hurried off. Cheryl was overjoyed when Richard entered her class, and was introduced to the other students. There was an empty desk just to the left and behind her which he took. When Donald finally came in he was irate to see him there. "Sit down, Mr. West!" the teacher snapped. "You've missed a third of the class! I'm sure someone will fill you in on the details. We're on page 256 right now. Please join us there."
Donald quickly opened his book. He continued from time to time, to glare at the new student which brought grins and giggles to the rest of the class. That Cheryl sat with the newcomer during lunch irritated him even more!
When Cheryl got home that afternoon and gave her mother a full report her mother shook her head. "Well, I'm glad the young man defended you," she remarked, "but don't gt too close to them, dear. They're dangerous people. They don't believe in God. They do evil things. You don't want to be around them."
"I'll try, mother!" Cheryl remarked, knowing full well she wasn't going to try very hard!"
