The Ancient One and his companions were up to their usual
tricks. They
had cornered a group of demons in Iraq in a cemetery. The
creatures of Darkness were trapped on three sides by sanctified ground,
and The Ancient One and his companions on the other. As The
Ancient One pushed them tighter and tighter into the trap once and a
while one would try to escape, and his companions would beat it
senseless before they'd let it flee. Suddenly The Ancient One
backed off and stared skyward. His companions and even the demons
stopped their activities and they, too, looked skyward. One of
the demons spoke.
"Lord Of Light, something is very much amiss. You
should not
waste your time with us, but find out what is wrong in the Heavens."
"I hate to admit it," The Ancient One muttered, "when one
of you guys
are right! You've got a reprieve tonight, boys! Consider
yourself lucky. Come on you two!" he called to his
companions. "I'm getting a telepathic message from the blockade
ships. We've got an intruder!!"
"Whoa!" The Ax Man cried, "I thought nobody could get by
our friends up
there."
"Nobody SHOULD be able to," The Ancient One
answered. "If
somebody can, we're in big trouble! But whoever they are they're
staying on the planet's night side. That's a big mistake, because
it means we can get at them."
In a few moments they were leaving the earth's
atmosphere. It
didn't take them long to find the intruder. It was pretty hard to
miss it. It was huge but mostly framework connecting various
components.
"Weird looking thing!" The Ax Man commented.
A beam suddenly seemed to come out of nowhere and strike
The Ancient
One in the chest. He was knocked backwards but quickly righted
himself. "Son of a bitch!" he screamed. "Those beams
are impregnated with synthetic ectoplasmic energy! And their
advanced ships are cloaked, but not for long!"
The Ancient One began to spin very rapidly. Suddenly
a pulse of
energy shot out of him going in all directions. There were ten
bright flashes and ten small space ships seemed to appear out of
nowhere. The Ancient One shot after two of them, and in a few
moments had overtaken them and literally ripped them apart. But
the other ships continued to attack with their irritating beams until
The Ancient One and his friends eliminated the rest of them. Five
more small vessels dropped away from the big one. A generator
began to operate on the mother ship. A pale blue beam began to be
transmitted that grew brighter and brighter. Slowly shimmering
rainbows filled the outside of the beam. The five small vessels
began to maneuver into the beam.
"Ax Man!" The Ancient One screamed, "I don't know
what that thing
is doing, but don't let them do it any more! Take it out!"
The Ax Man spun around and gave his ax a mighty heave. It
sailed
through space, ripped through the strange generator. The blue
beam began to fade. Then there was a tremendous blast! The
Ancient One and his companions were hurled backwards into the fading
beam as the mother ship disintegrated into thousands and thousands of
microscopic particles.
The Ancient One and his companions were tumbled over and over. For a
while they didn't know what was up or down. Finally everything seemed
to settle down.
"Damn!" The Ancient One heard The Ax Man cursing, "I
can't find
my ax. And my armor's gone."
The Ancient One turned and looked at him. He was not
his good
friend, he was somebody else.
"Paddy?" The Ancient One asked, "Paddy
Mulligan? Can't be!"
"CAN be!" came the voice of his female
companion. "Take a
look at me."
The Ancient One did so. "Jane!" he moaned, "Jane Walker!"
"No," his companion answered, "I'm still Durga inside. I
look like Jane
Walker, but I'm still myself! And where in the hell did these
horses come from?"
The Ancient One turned to the direction to where she
pointed.
Three magnificent steeds stood there, happily munching away on the
grass. "Sunrise?" The Ancient One muttered.
"Sure looks like him!" Durga remarked.
With the speaking of his name the big red horse trotted
over and began
to nuzzle The Ancient One.
"All right!" The Ax Man moaned, "What is going on?"
"I haven't got the foggiest idea!" The Ancient one
answered,
"Something that definitely should not be going on!"
He examined the horse that was so happily cuddling
him. "These
horses aren't real," he remarked. 'They appear to be real in every
aspect, but they are not. They're not made up of true flesh and
blood. They're made up of ectoplacmic energy."
He reached up on the saddle and pulled out a
shotgun. "As these
weapons are not real," he continued, "though they most certainly appear
to be."
He cocked the shotgun, pointed it at a nearby stump and
discharged it.
Most of the stump disappeared. "They seem to work!" The Ancient
One muttered.
