70.

It was after they had returned from one of these trips, that a young cadet named Red Stone was leading them to advanced navigation class when he stopped in the corridor and looked around, nervously.

       "What's the matter?" asked North.

"Sir," the cadet said, "I'm lost!"

North could see the cadet was extremely frightened. He knew he would automatically be flunked because of loosing his way in The Academy. North stared at him for several minutes.

"Take it easy, Red," he told him, "it's alright."

He instructed one of the other cadets to take the squad to class and tell the instructor he was taking a cadet to hospital. The men saluted and hurried off. With Red Stone in tow, North headed for The Academy's great medical complex. When he arrived he told the intern on duty he wanted to see a doctor immediately.

"You'll have to wait a few minutes, cadet," said the intern. "The doctors are all busy."

North put his hands on top of the desk, and looked the intern straight in the eye.

"Mister, I said immediately! Do you know what immediately means?"

The young intern snapped, "Yes, sir!" and began pressing buttons. A few minutes later a young doctor came down the corridor and stared at North.

       "What's the matter?" he asked.

"I've got a cadet here, that's sick, and I don't like the look of it."

"What are the symptoms?" asked the doctor.

"Low blood pressure, fever, and advanced mental confusion."

"You've scanned him?" the doctor questioned.

"No," replied North, "but those are the readings you'll get. I think it's a brain infection."

The doctor's eyes widened, and he took a small scanning unit from his side. He ran it over Red Stone and then turned back to North.

"If you didn't scan," he said, "how did you know?"

North shrugged. "I just know," he said.

The doctor turned to the intern. "Close this section," he ordered, "Until further notice, we're quarantined!"

He took Red Stone and North to an examination room and soon he had the young cadet in a Med-Com. North was at a computer terminal searching for a certain readout.

"I've got it, doctor!" he cried. The doctor came over and looked at the screen.
