We were asked to find out from Gene Roddenberry how he feels about his ashes being launched into space, and being in the company of such people as Timothy Leary.  Gene's comments are these;
"Sometimes you can't pick who's on a flight with you.  That's very often up to chance.  My only regret is that the rocket was not powerful enough to break earth orbit, and send us out of the galaxy into interstellar space.  But we had to go with the technology that was available.  I can't "go where no man has gone before," but I have been among the first to do something no one has done before. And someday I'll be a shooting star for a time, lighting the heavens.  All in all, I think it will be a good ride for the price."
A couple of radio stations have asked us for some comments from Jackie Robinson, who, fifty years ago, was the first black baseball player in the major leagues.
Mr. Robinson was reluctant to speak with my Worker at first but finally conceded to give her these comments.
"I continue to have great pride in the progress my people have made in the last few years.  But I am extremely disturbed that much of this progress is only superficial.  That many accept civil rights but only begrudgingly.  Underneath the surface many still live in a bygone era where others were considered superior simply because their skin happened to be a lighter color.
There are many today in the highest levels of government plotting to reverse the gains colored people have made in the last few years.  In some states already the laws giving colored people an even opportunity with others have been repealed because of the jealousy of a few whites that fear their jobs, or their children's chance for a job might be threatened.
Progress has been made, but much, much more needs to be done.  I still pray for a society where a man will be judged by the strength of his heart and the fairness in his Soul, and not by the color of his skin.  Sadly, I know there are others that pray that such a world will never come to be. I sincerely hope their prayers are never answered and mine come to be fulfilled."
These are Mr. Robinson's comments.  I, for one, share his prayer, and I hope the majority of others do.
