Well, we have to say, here the fictional writers got it pretty good! Our computers were just as sophisticated as the fictional ones, if not moreso. But they were quite a bit smaller, and had quite a bit more calculating capibility. The small personal computers that everbody carried that could fit in the palm of your hand could store the information of an entire thousand year lifetime! Plus, you could obtain booster chips that held entire libraries. Computers the size of briefcases stored the information of engire planets, and, ran starships!
To say that the fictional technology was just a bit behind the real thing is somewhat of an understatement! Human computers are toys compared to what we had.
