Well, the fabel of free speech in America has struck again!
Below is a copy of a letter we sent to a newspaper in Vermont
with an ad. We got the letter back in its original envelope.
Written on the envelope was the word "rejected" and the
initials mtg, and the date 4/17/00. We find nothing offensive
about this ad. It is an expression of deeply held religious
belief, and we see no reason why it should not be published.
Unfortunately, as long as the managers and editors have the right
to reject advertising out of hand without just cause, true free
speech will never exist in America. I remember some years ago I
was trying to publish ads countering Klu Klux Klan advertising in
my local paper in Bangor, Maine. The publisher allowed The Klu
Klux Klan ads, but would not accept my counter advertisements and
refused to give me any explaination why. He said "If I don't
want to print them, I don't have to print them, and you can't do
a thing about it. That's my right." As long as people
controlling the media have this right unpopular views, the TRUTH
oftentimes, cannot be heard.
Perhaps some of our regulars would like to call the management of
this newspaper, and ask them what was so offensive in this ad
that they felt it unfit for publication? Do they feel others do
not have the right to say that people are unholy and, what they
are doing should be stopped? Perhaps it is something your
listeners would like to hear. What gives this person the right to
keep others from expressing themselves? Their telephone numbers
