custom.
"Then leave!"  Muhammed ordered, "And never come back!"
"But Lord!" the young man answered, "We believe in The One True God!  We wish to serve you!"
"No, you do not!"  Muhammed answered, "You believe in the traditions of old, in the ways of your fathers.  You do not believe in The One True God!  No man can have two masters. He does neither one justice.  You must either serve God, or, serve the traditions of your fathers.  But you cannot serve both!  The choice is yours!  You can obey and stay, or you can disobey and leave.  But you must choose, now, The One True God, or tradition.  Now either go and help train the women, or leave!"
All the young men rose, and repeated as one, "We have chosen our master, The One True God! We will obey!"
And they went and joined the Roman and began to teach the women.  Muhammed shook his head, and returned to his other duties.  Three days passed and the Roman came to him.
"The people are all gathered into the major houses, or are out in the encampment.  But master!  I must tell you this position is undefendable.  If we stay here we will be wiped out.  There are too many of them and too few of us."
"I know," Muhammed answered, "it is not my intention to stay in the houses and fight.  But it is my intention to make those in the city THINK that is what I plan to do!  It has all been arranged!  Tonight their sentries watching us will get something a little extra in their food.  And by the time it is well dark they will be aware of nothing.  A caravan will enter this part of the city, we will load our goods on its beasts, and be well away before they even know!
The leader of Medina has offered me shelter.  We will go there and from there continue our work.  If the Meccans leave us in peace, we will not bother them!  If they do not.." Muhammed did not have to continue.  The Roman knew what if not would mean!  So as soon as it became first dark Muhammed's people left the city.  The enemy's sentries snoozed away, watched over by some of Muhammed's men.
It was not until high sun of the next day that it suddenly came to the realization of the people of Mecca, that Muhammed and his people were no longer among them!  It was the next day before they took up pursuit, but take up pursuit they did!
