Chapter Seven

Now, Muhammed had bought some land in a desolate area near Mecca, and people wondered at it, saying, "What foolishness is this, that Muhammed buys this worthless land?"  But there was a cave on this land, and when Muhammed was weary he found it a good place to go and rest, and meditate.  And, as the years passed, this became his custom, weekly, to spend at least a day meditating in his cave.
Now, one day, as he did this, he saw a shimmering on a rock just inside the cave.  And he wondered at this with great curiosity!  And he concentrated on this shimmering again, and it appeared again.  And it took on a shape, a strange, leathery-winged being covered with plush fur, except about its hands, and, its face.  It smiled at Muhammed and remarked, "Well!  It's about time!  I thought you were never going to reach the level of Enlightenment, where you could see me!  I was beginning to fear our whole mission would fail."
Muhammed stared at the strange being in total bewilderment!  "What ARE you?" he asked.
The being smiled. "I am your forbear!" he answered, "My race are called The Havens.  We were very old when the Earth was young. We come from a place so far away you cannot even begin to understand the greatness of the distance!  We came to this world long ago, and we and our enemies fought here, and we all died.  But before we died we left our genetic inheritance in man, and man survived.  Now We guide and nurture man, til many years from now they reach a level where they will be suitable for us to enter into and live again.  Then we will gather ourselves from among mankind, build great ships, and return to the stars, where we belong, and leave this world to man."
Muhammed was totally bewildered!  But he felt no evil from this strange creature, only benign, gentle love.  So he saw no harm in continuing the conversation.
"What are you doing here, with me?"  he asked.
The being smiled.  "Many years ago we put you in this body because we needed among your people, a Teacher.  There is danger that man will go astray, that he will destroy himself before we can complete Our Great Effort, and save him.  In order for man to be saved he must be taught as much of the Truth as he can deal with, and keep that Truth til it is time for The Great Awakening."
Muhammed sat back.  "I was sent, wasn't I," he remarked.  "I was sent here, to teach these people?"
"That is so," the being answered, "You were chosen and sent from among many."
"What is your name, forbear?" Muhammed asked.
"I am called Northern Star," the being answered, "in the language of my people, Lew Fr.  But over the ages I have been called by many other names in whatever language I was spoken of it always meant The Great Destroyer, The Terror Of Kings, The Enemy Of Evil, The Angel Of Destruction."
Muhammed nodded. "My people have never heard of you," he remarked, "and they are fearful of anything from the north.  If I say The Angel Of The North has taught me, they will be afraid, and not want to hear.  There is a messenger of God they know of that they often speak of, Gabriel, The Trumpet Of God, God's Herald.  If I was to call you that, they might hearken to what I say."
Northern Star grimaced.  "I would rather have you call me a pile of manure than call me The Trumpet Of God!"  he remarked, "But if it is a name your people will accept, and, recognize, so be it.  I will not let my vanity stand in the way of the mission.  Now, Muhammed, are you ready to hear the Truth Of The Universe?"
Muhammed bowed, and said "My ears are yours.  Speak, oh Lord Of The North, and tell me of the wonders that you know!"
And for many days Northern Star told Muhammed of all the great peoples that had come before, and all Their Teachings.  And when he was done, Muhammed nodded. "There is much they will not understand," he remarked "The equality of women will come hard to them, and that we must never attack others unless they attack us, or, the innocent, will hinder their greed.  But there is nothing that you have said that is not worth teaching.  I will be your Messenger.  I will build this nation that you desire, this people to bridge the gap."
"Excellent!"  Northern Star answered.  "Take pen and paper and begin to write down what you feel will be acceptable, and when you're ready, begin to teach.  But do not tell the majority of people the entire truth, only a select few may know all.
There is a secret brotherhood among all the races that we have used for untold ages, The Brotherhood Of Light.  They will assist you, they will help you find those of like mind.  I must depart, now.  My power to be with you is limited.  I can only come from time to time when the energy is great.  But even though you cannot see me, I shall always be nearby."
"Thank you!" Muhammed cried, as the Haven faded away.  He returned home and began to write, and one
