The Ancient One rose up. There were some really sharp curves coming up, and the driver of the sports car wasn't slowing down. The Ancient One shot ahead. As the sports car entered one of the turns he gave the rear end just a little nudge. The car was instantly out of control! It hit the guard rails, spun around, bounced off them a couple of more times, turned around again, and finally came to a stop. The squad cars pulled up. The deputies rushed out and pulled the driver clear. His airbag had kept him from any serious harm. "That takes care of that!" The Ancient One's male companion remarked.
The Ancient One raised his hand and looked back the way they'd come. Another vehicle was coming, a Mercedes sedan. It came to a stop behind the cruisers and a heavy set woman got out. She hurried up to the officers. "You take those damn handcuffs off my boy right now!" she screamed. "I'll take him home. It will be all right. I'll bring him in in the morning and you can make out whatever charges you want."
"We're booking him this time!" one of the deputies snapped.
The woman took out a cell phone and punched in a number vicously. "Charlie?" she screamed, "They've got Bobby again! He's NOT going to that dirty old jail! You now how many times we've discussed this. My family owns everything in this county! I don't know why your deputies keep harrassing him, why they don't just leave him alone. Now, let me take him home. He'll be in court tomorrow!"
She listened a moment then held out the phone to the officer. The officer listened for a moment then sighed, and answered "Yes, sheriff!" handed the phone back to the woman, undid the handcuffs, and helped put her son in her car. She quickly got in and drove off. The deputies were looking at the wreck and didn't notice the Mercedes had pulled over a short way down the road. The Ancient One tapped one of the deputies on the shoulder. He turned around in time to see the woman get out, go around to the passenger side, while her son staggered around the front of the car and got behind the steering wheel! He slammed the door and the car roared down the road, wobbling back and forth across the center line.
"Son of a bitch!" the deputy screamed. "She's letting him drive!" He ran to his cruiser and again took up pursuit. The other deputies followed.
The Ancient One soared ahead, listening to the conversation in the Mercedes. "They're following us again!" the woman was saying. "Will you tell them to go home?"
He could hear the deep voice saying "Maggie, tell Bobby to pull over. He's too impaired to drive!"
"Nonsense!" the woman answered. "He's doing just fine. He can get us home. Now tell those stupid deputies to stop chasing us and go home!"
The Ancient One looked ahead. There was a whole line of trees that had been damaged by a recent storm. He waited until just the right moment and nudged the car again. It went flying off the road, heading for the trees. The Ancinet One shot ahead, picked up one of the half fallen trees, and pushed it over. The car came crashing into the end of it and it drove through the windshield and out the back. Again, the squad cars pulled up, and the deputies piled out. One of them came around to the passenger's side and screamed "Oh my God! Oh my holy God! Get him out of there!"
"Come on, Bobby," one of the deputies snapped, "this time you're going to jail."
"Mama!" the young man screamed, "Mama! They're doing it again. Tell them to let me go!"
"She can't, Bobby!" another deputy answered, "She's dead. You killed her."
"No!" the young man screamed, "She's just hurt. Call an ambulance. Take her to the hospital. They'll fix it."
"Her head's ripped off!" the deputy screamed. "They can't fix that! It's pulverized! There's nothing left of it! This time you'll go to prison, Bobby! This time you killed somebody, and your mama won't be there to help you."
"No!" the young man screamed, "No! No!" The deputies dragged him off.
The Ancient One joined his companions and rose skyward. "Ow! Somebody's in an ugly mood!" his male companion remarked. "Sometimes he just has enough," his female companion answered. "Sometimes he just gets fed up with their crap. Sometimes he just ends it!"
"He ended that all right!" the male companion sighed. "He sure ended that all right! I didn't even see her soul leave her body."
"It left it long ago!" The Ancient One answered, "It left it long ago."
They headed on home. There was much to do, very much to do!
