This is an interview with the spirit of the famous Soiux Indian Chief, Crazy Horse. We thank Victor Brotte from Tulsa, OK, and Corrine Hasse of Endicott, NC for sending us questions. The answers were channeled through Speaker Gerald Polley.

1. Many Medicen Men have been unable to find any of Indian blood to teach the old ways to. In order to hand down the old ways some have made offers to teach the old medicine to whites. Do you feel that it is better to teach the old ways to white students or to just let the old medicine pass away to new ways?

A. The Old Medicine must never be lost. If a wise one cannot find his own to teach, and there are those of the pale skin, and, the dark skin, and the tanned skin who desire to learn The Ancient Ways, then it is good in the eyes of The Great Spirits that he teach them. For many who wear the skin of a different color are really The People inside, trying again to find Their Heritage. Turn no one away, for you may be turning away a Kinsman in another form. Welcome them, reach them, for the maidens find a man for the man find a maiden. Let their blooed mix with the blood of The People, that The People may become strong.

2. Wilma Mankiller has been Chief of the Cherokee Nation for several years and has proven herself to be one of the greatest Chiefs of the 20th Century. Tradition teaches that a man should be Chief. Have times changed to the point where it is correct to have a female Chief, or has there been female chiefs in the past? Or do you feel that there should never be female Chiefs?

A. The ways of The People were always kind to our sisters. It is only the white men's lies that they had no voice among The People. Even in my day there were women whose wisdom was listened to when the Chieftains gathered in counsel. The Great Spirts have taught us much, and that a woman is free to be whatever she wants to be, and to serve The People in whatever way she is best to serve, is good. If a woman is a good chief, let her be a chief, if she is a good medicine woman, then let her be a good medicine woman. Though in my day, women did not do battle, there are many today I would be proud to have follow me. But let us not forget the woman's special place, the magic that is within her, the joy and wonderment she brings as her belly becomes full. No matter what else a woman chooses to be, let her also remember her duty as a woman and increase the numbers of the people. There is no reason why both cannot be.

3. Alcohol and drug abuse is one of the worst problems ever to happen to the Indian Nation. What words of encouragement or advice can you offer to our brothers and sisters?

A. The People must turn from the white man's poison. They must forbid it from their land and drive out all those who would sell it to their children, taking the profit they have made on our children's misery and using it for the good of The People. The first time they are driven out they shall be marked, and if ever they return again to The People to sell their poison they are to be given to The Great Spirits, that They may have mercy on them if they wish.
But The People can have no mercy. They must protect their treasure, they must protect their children. Likewise, those among The People who use the white man's poison, whether it be in a bottle, in a needle, or smoked, must be driven from among The People, cast out. but if they should turn from the white man's poison and come back, then The People shall welcome them. But if they break their word and show the white man's poison again to our children and encourage them by their actions, to use it also, then they, too, must be given to The Great Spirits. This is hard medicine, this is powerful medicine, but it is the only medicine that will save The People. Those who are driven out will be the weak and the unworthy. What will remain will be the building stones of a great mountain.

4. For the last 100 years the Redman has slowly been accepted (or forced) into the traditions, beliefs, and ways of the Whiteman's world. is it time to open our traditions and ways to the Whiteman?

A. It is not time to open our ways to the white man, but to cast off the white man's ways. The weak religion that he has taught our children must be set aside and The People must return to The Old Ways, the Good Ways. The white man poisons our bodies with his liquor, and poisons our minds with his religions that do not make one strong but makes one weak, what takes what is natural and makes it evil, that takes what is good and makes it wrong. The People do not need the white man's lying faith. But they need the true faith of Their Fathers. Let the drums beat and The People sing as it was in the old days. Let The Great Spirits be called. Make the magic circles and as in the days of old, dance with Our Fathers and Our Mothers long gone. Cast off the traditions of the white man and return to the ways of The People.

5. The coming Earth changes; will you explain what will happen?

A. I, as a War Chief of The People do not understand these things that the Medicine People say. But I have heard from The Wise Ones here, that there will be changes both in climate and the shape of the land. but they will not come all places at once, as many believe, but will occur here and there, giving the people of other places time to come to the aid of those in stricken areas. As I have said, I do not know of these things myself, but this is what The Medicine Chiefs have told me.

6. Is there a safe place to be?

A. A place that is safe one time, may not be the next. The safe places move with each event. But The WIse Ones will see the coming disasters and warn the cautioujs ones where to flee. Do not hesitate or laugh. When they say flee, flee!

7. Can no one prepare for it?

A. One should be prepared for ALL emergencies, with the supplies one family should need to survive. This was always the way of The People and should be their way today.

8. Has it started?

A. Again I must draw on the wisdom of others. but those who watch the sky and the land say yes, it has begun. If the foolish ones are not stopped soon, then slowly all the world will die, and the numbers of its children will become less and less.

9. Are there UFOs?

A. I believe by this term, you mean Sky Brothers. Yes. It is so. I have sat in the lodges of many who have walked on distant ground. In The Land Of Brotherhood all are one, and visitors, whether they sit on the floor, hang from the rafters, or float in a glass ball are welcome. To hear their tales as we sit by the fire is wonderous, indeed!

10. If things get as bad as they say it will, will they rescue us?

A. No. Those that say they will are either fools or liars trying to gain your favor. The Sky Brothers have a strict law. They may not interfere with the lives of others. They must let each go their own way. Live or die, if they interefere they could create something that could destroy much. Each must develop their own wisdom in their own time. This is what their Medicine Chiefs have told me by the counsel fires.

11. Why are the Native American Organizations talking LOVE so close to New Age Religion?

A. The people have always spoken of love. It is only the fool that speaks otherwise. The haters will only be hatred. True, we have been wronged, grievously wronged, but if we become like those who wronged us, are we any better than them? No! The People will win back their land. They will overcome the Evil Ones, but they will do so with dignity and honor. They will not become like those they oppose. If they do, then their enemy has won. For he has succeeded in making them like unto the image of himself.

12. Do you think The New Age of Beliefs works as a cure for our sick world?

A. When The Great Ones come and The Sleeping Children are awakened, and all the mysteries are put together and made clear, then The New Age will trully be here. That which is occuring now is merely the signal fires on the high ground leading The People to The Great Gathering, where The Great Spirits shall speak. Then, truly shall the world be blessed. Those places that uncaringly pour poisons into the air and the water will be torn down. Those who would destroy the world for their own greed will be given their just reward. And those who love the land would make it prosper while keeping its beauty will rule with a mighty hand. And The Evil Ones will not prevail.
