"Well I'm going to tell people what happened!" the
woman snapped "It wasn't right. Those men should've been
given an opportunity to surrender. This was cold blooded
murder."
"Give your statement to that man over there," the
officer moaned.
"Got to go!" Cordell snapped. "Lucky you!"
the officer moaned.
Cordell followed his instructions and picked up the marshal. They
continued on to the museum.
"Question," Cordell asked.
"Ask!" the marshal answered.
"What in the hell were you shooting?"
The marshal smiled. "Experimental ammunition being issued to
field agents, rocket assisted bullets. They'll go right through
body armor. It doesn't even slow them down. We're testing it for
the possibility of general issue."
"Sure as hell seems to work!" Cordell commented.
"It sure does!" the marshal agreed.
They got to the museum without further difficulty. When they left
however, a purse snatcher made the unfortunate mistake of
grabbing a woman's purse and running by the marshal. The
marshal's hand came out, the man flew up into the air, pivoted,
and came down on the sidewalk with a horrendous crash! The two
officers then continued on leaving the bystanders to restrain the
man until a patrol car arrived.
"Good form," Cordell muttered. "Don't quite
recognize the technique."
"Shin Dau," the marshal answered.
"Shaolin?" Cordell asked.
The marshal nodded. They reached the truck and continued on to
the ranger museum, Cordell, eying his companion with increasing
curiosity.
In the meantime Trivette and Arrows had made it to the biker bar
without incident. They sat for a couple of hours just listening
to the radio. Finally boredom overtook Trivette. "What
possessed you to become a marshal?" he asked his companion,
quite casually.
