thoughts, for he suddenly became calmer. "Get
your things, son," he remarked, "and go home. I'll explain later so you
will understand."
26 North looked to his father, then, to The Lord God's brother. When he
spoke, it was to his father. "I think I understand already, sir. Thank
you for coming."
27 North's father only nodded as North picked up his books and headed
out the door. As he reached the entrance he looked into the outside
hallway then stepped out. For the first time in
his life, North swung around and stuck his foot in the door, so it
didn't close completely. But as soon as the noise of the mechanism was
heard, a voice inside exploded. "How dare you enter my apartment and
act like this?" screamed The Lord God's brother. "I'll see you stripped
of your rank, and shipped to the furthest outpost of the Empire!"
28 "Almost five-hundred years," answered General Star, "and it's the
same book, and, the same threats, except this time you can't carry them
out. My position is important. I'm no longer a mere ship's captain
barely out of Academy, and your brother doesn't listen to you any more.
I would not do what you wanted then, my son will not do what you want,
now. You will leave him alone, or I will break your miserable
neck with my own two hands!"
29 "How dare you!" screamed The Lord God's brother. "I have WHAT I
please, WHEN I please! If it hadn't been for that damned war, you'd
still be on that asteroid where I had you sent. I can still destroy
you, and I will. You denied me yourself, but you won't deny me HIM.
I'll destroy you then have what I want!"
30 There was a crashing sound, and North figured he'd heard enough. He
carefully withdrew his foot and hurried home. When he arrived, his
worried look immediately told his mother there was something wrong.
When her son told her what had happened, she began to cry and went to
sit down on the couch. "Will that monster never leave us alone?" she
wept. "Will we never have any relief from his insanity? How much must
we suffer at his hands before The Holy Spirit puts an end to it?"
