31 North and his mother sat for several hours
watching the door and phone. Finally the doorbell rang. Quickly North
opened it, and found a member of The Lord's Guard waiting there. "I'm
looking for the wife of General Bold Star. Is this her residence?"
32 "Yes," North answered, "I'm her son. Can I help you?"
33 "I must speak to her, directly," the Officer insisted. "Where is
she?"
34 "Follow me," North instructed as he led the Officer to where his
mother was in the living room. "This is my mother," he told him.
35 "Madame," the Guard began, "it is my sad duty to inform you that
your husband has raised his hand against The God Family, and killed one
of its members. He was arrested and foolishly attempted to escape. He
was killed in the attempt. I have been sent to see if I can find any
reason for these actions. Can you tell me why your husband would want
to murder The Lord God's brother?"
36 North's mother listened to all this without a sound, but as the
Guard finished, she began to cry hysterically. The Guard again tried to
question her, but North made him stop, took him into the kitchen, and
quickly told him everything he knew.
37 "Well," sighed the Guard, "that explains a lot. I don't think
they'll excuse it, though. You're lucky you're not in detention right
now. They cancelled the order while we were coming over. Of course
you're under house arrest. Since they haven't arrested you, 'they
probably won't kill you. You'll be lucky though, if they don't seize
all your inheritance. I'll make my report look as good as I can."
38 "Where's my father's body?" asked North.
39 "It's been taken to The Temple of The Dead," answered the Guard.
"But you won't be able to see it. Tomorrow they will call you for a
hearing. If you have relatives you can trust, you'd better get ahold of
