then leaped to his feet. "Come on!" he cried,
"We've got to get out of here! If that's someone who's come to pray
over the body, they'll be back in minutes!"
125 Quickly the two boys climbed the stairs and headed for the windows.
North saw the second one open where his companion had come in. Neither
wasted any time getting through and becoming airborne. They did not
land until they were far away from the Temple. "What were YOU doing in
there, Gray Mountain?" North finally got to ask.
126 "I came," Gray Mountain answered, "to curse that thing that is not
worthy to lay beside your father. For half a year he has forced me to
do what he desired. I praised his death and came to curse him! I was
just leaving when you came through the window, so I hid. But when you
spoke, I couldn't help join you, and, as I said before, I'm with you!
Lead, and I will follow."
127 North reached out and put his hand on the other's shoulder. "Very
well," he told him, "but right now we had both better get home before
we're missed."
128 The two boys parted company, flying back to their own homes. North
slipped in without discovery. His uncle still worked in his father's
office. North went to his room and laid down. He was instantly asleep.
