there always seemed to be ample Hashons willing
to fly such vessels; the old, the sick, the dying ....thousands would
give their lives to defeat their Peoples' enemies.
54 To his amazement, even some of his OWN people were coming forward
expressing their willingness to undertake such missions. North
willingly built such ships if people would fly them. Any weapon he
could use against the enemy, he would use, even if he didn't understand
or like it.
55 He reached the Doctor's cabin, pressed the communicator, and the
door slid open. As he stepped inside, he found the room dimly lit. The
bed had been extended. The Doctor sat at a table which held a decanter
from which she was pouring drinks. What she had on surprised North
because it was virtually nothing! "Sit down, Commander," she invited,
"relax. have some wine! "
56 "I have accepted The Hashon Tradition," explained North, "I don't
take alcohol any more."
57 "Neither do I," answered the Doctor.
58 North sat down and took the drink. "If you don't mind ," he
requested, "I'd like to get to my cabin, relax, and get some rest. What
is it you want?"
59 "Precisely the same thing you want! " the Doctor laughed. "I'm sure
you have a pretty good idea what I have in mind."
60 "I do," North agreed, "and I think I'd better leave. No offense but
I have an agreement with my wives to get their approval first."
61 "I know," laughed the Doctor. "I already asked their permission,
and, my husband's."
62 "Well, then," laughed North, undoing his jacket, "I guess that
covers all problems. "
63 North had thought the Doctor rather cold and unemotional. He found
himself pleasingly wrong. She was not only pleasing physically, but she
was a telepath,
