"I'm not a Speaker, I'm only a Warrior. I
remember my wife's father….my first wife," he added, "telling me that
I would be one of the greatest Speakers his people had known! But I
have only become a member of The Faith, I have not taken The Bread And
Wine as a Speaker."
19 "But do try!" The Priest insisted. "Perhaps we could be the first to
witness your use of this great Gift!"
20 "It is a power I would have evolved," objected North, "earned, not
been given. But I think I can remember the prayers. There are prayers
you must use...protection. If you insist, I will see what I can do!"
21 North spread his hands as The Old Hashon had taught him, years

"and nothing but good shall enter my Holy Light." After he had said
this three times, he felt a strange warmth come over him, and something
seemed to pull him into a warm, dark place. He was aware of voices, but
could not determine what they were saying.
22 Outside of his body, though, they could hear the voice; they could
hear it quite well! For North's body sat up and took on an expression
of anger. A hand pointed to The High Priest. "Flesh of my flesh," cried
a voice that was not North's, in perfect Peepian, "how is it that you
question one who is The Voice Of Change? Must my line always be evil
doers? Must we always oppose what is good because our hearts are
anchored in the past?
23 I sought Lord Change's life because I felt our Ancient Traditions
were being betrayed, and would have slain him, but he forgave me. Are
you any better than I? You have read Lord Change again and again. You
have him in your mind. Yet, this one who has read Lord Change but
twice, has him in his heart, and knows him far better than you!
24 You have long sought the message I left for my children in The
Chamber Of Whispers. But like all before
