26 "First of all," North continued, "I have selected and trained five-thousand women to serve as Cooks, Laundry Attendants, and Ground. Communications. "
27 "Women?" gasped Spearonias, "On the ships? Where did you get them?"
28 "Whores," North explained, "I bought their beds! They get standard pay plus whatever extra they pick up in their free time. Most of them are older women who are glad for the income. I also have here a list of retired Officers who have volunteered to serve as Ground Personnel with no additional pay, other than their retirement.
29 Here is also a list of civilians who hold similar jobs to positions that would be needed on your ships. With all this I think we could put together enough crews if we recruit a few more women to work in warehouses and laundries and other non-combat ground positions. We can free more Officers for Fleet Duty, plus we can hire civilian Bookkeepers and Secretaries.
30 I am not saying it will not be difficult. It will take an Officer of great persuasive ability. He will have to select Officers who are willing to accept charge, and carry out their mission, regardless of old Traditions or prejudices."
