BOOK SEVENTEEN
THE
BOOK OF THE TURNER AGAINST
Chapter
One
Now, in the 3,793rd Year From The Beginning, after a long and mostly
happy life, Northern Star joined his friend Morn, and, the others of
his generation who had gone on to The Blessed Land Of Their Fathers.
For
he was very old, and all those that he had loved, had gone before him.
2 Seventy years before this he had stepped down as First Speaker, and
the people had chosen Morning Star's oldest son to lead them.
3 Now, such a great Orator was this man, so many of The Goddens did he
turn from their worship to The Way Of Spirit, that The Goddens began to
call him The Turner Against, and his own people also began to call him
this. Soon, his true name was all but forgotten.
4 Many years passed, and things seemed well, but then The Goddens
became upset by the number of those among their people that were
turning from their faith. "You cheat!" their Leader told The Turner
Against. "You tell great lies about our fathers. You say The Lord God
was evil, and did wicked things, of which we have no record. You say
that he was a monster from another world, and not The Maker Of All
Things.
5 These lies we can no longer endure. We will not permit open
communication any more. We will not allow you to continue to defile The
Great Truths of our fathers. It is you who are the liar, and your
Fathers were liars before you. There is no wisdom in you at all, only
evil. From now on your people stay on your side of the boundaries, our
people will stay on ours."
6 So it was The Goddens sealed off The Empire. They continued to trade,
but only at select stations along The Epire's edge, where cargos were
