trucks, and a new rifle to replace the old version that was rapidly
becoming outdated. Some of the other projects benefited the Army as
well; new bridges in many areas that would not collapse under their
tanks, improved train beds and tracks to outlying areas to move men and
supplies with greater efficiency, a network of airfields that could
handle bigger planes, and bring in supplies by air.
