Chapter Eight
Little Gray Boar went to work with his mother in The Aircraft Works,
and also built a small laboratory of his own a little north of the
city. He also bought vast tracts of land near Rail, and everybody said
he was foolish. People had tried to grow crops there for years, but it
took enormous amounts of water.
2 Little Gray Boar, when visiting this area, had had an idea. The soil
there was VERY salty. He had a hunch that the salt was what killed the
plants, so he laid out his farms in buildings, with stained glass
windows to keep down the heat. Then he built a plant for the generation
of electricity from sunlight
3 He washed the soil in his buildings with water, then ran the water
through his plant, turning it to steam. Salt built up in the bottom of
the boilers.
After a few times the soil started to grow plants. Soon he
was exporting melons, cucumbers, and many other delicacies.
4 Soon, other companies leased the rights to his process, and wasteland
everywhere were being used to grow food. Little Gray Boar became very
rich. He worked on other projects, too. He built a better generator and
transformer, which made electricity cheaper. His father was very proud.
5 His brother was not to be left out, either. He was making a name for
himself along the Oneness' walls, building a defense line that was not
incredibly costly, but did the job. Time and time again The Oneness
tried to break but, time and time again they were driven back with
heavy losses. To say they disliked Gray Boar and his family was
the understatement of the age!
6 Back in his own Land, Gray Boar was the hero of the age. The people
looked on him almost as a living Lord. Wherever he went people came
begging blessings, and though he never accepted one offer, women
