33 His people brought back horrible news! The
Wonderful Ones that had come to the city had been spies. Not far beyond
the borders of Plentiful was a vast army.
34 They had heard Speaktruth tell his War Leader, 'These people will
hardly be worth the conquering. Their daughters are not very fair, but
they will be good enough for slaves if you put out the lights! Put the
armor on my riding beast. I will return to this land, and claim it as
my own.'
35 Now, when Groam heard this, he sent messengers to his father, asking
him to send his army. For he knew that though The Plentifuls were
brave, they could not stand up to as great an army as his people had
described. Their city was built for beauty, not for war, their gates
could be easily taken.
36 He rushed to the city to warn them. At first The King didn't believe
him, and his War Leader was doubtful. 'If you do not believe me,'
complained Groam, 'send scouts and see for yourself.'
37 'We will need no scouts,' commanded The King. 'Gather the army. We
do not doubt your word. It is just these people seem so friendly.'
38 'Not to me,' reminded Groam. 'I go to await my father's army. As
soon as they come, I will lead them to your city. Do not fear. I WILL RETURN!'
39 When The Wonderful Ones returned they were surprised to find The
Plentiful's army waiting for them, but they attacked, led by their
great war beasts. The Plentifuls fought bravely but they were driven
back to their gates. For they had no riding beasts and feared these
great, snorting animals.
