Thundering Dove, "we would always have peace. It
is not The Lords that make war, but Their enemies. And, as to your
first question, I can't answer. There is a time and a place for
everything, for birth, for death, for love, for hate. Everything comes
in its season. We can no more control it, than we can control the wind.
But we have to learn to live with it and rule it, and not let it rule
us!
10 Remember what The Old Fox said? 'The Lords do not control our
destinies, They merely know how we will act when we are put together.'
That is one reason I love The Lords. They try to put the right people together.
But we are talking of things we should not be speaking of here and now.
Let us save these conversations for a time when we are alone. We are
supposed to be judging the enemy's strengths.
11 But I will say one thing more; I think of my fighting people, also,
as my children, and every one I loose grieves my heart. I never keep
any Warlock whose utmost concern is not protecting the lives of his
people. A man like that may win a few more battles, by wasting lives,
but in the long run, the price is too high."
12 They scouted later than they had wanted to, but Thundering Dove had
learned what he had wanted to know. All the enemy's defenses were at
least a day's travel from the river. They had pushed the defenders back
several times, and now the water was far behind them. His idea had a
good chance of working.
13 As they marched back towards the village they had just come out of a
narrow passage, when they ran into a nasty surprise. Ahead of them, was
an
enemy battle patrol, almost four times their number. "We've got a
PROBLEM!" Bay Blossom muttered.
14 "That," said Thundering Dove, "is an understatement! We can't
run…they'll cut us to pieces.
