31 The Warlock The First Speaker's Adviser had
sent, stood back with amusement. "So predictable," he whispered, "are these good-hearted fools. They do exactly what you
want them to. Tonight, when all is quiet, we take him. By high sun
tomorrow, he will be a problem no more!"
32 That evening as Gray Goat ate, he told Singing Hawk and the others
in the house where he was staying, "Late tonight a group of men will
come for me; a Warlock, a Guardian, and some merchants. When they come,
do EXACTLY as I say. Turn your backs on me and cover your faces, and
until I tell you, do not look at me, no matter what, you hear? No
matter what happens, do not cast your eyes on me. In The Name of The
Lords, keep your eyes covered!"
33 "But Lord!" argued Singing Hawk, "If we do that, how can we defend
you?"
34 "You will not need to defend me!" insisted Gray Goat. "The Lords
will do that."
35 When they were about ready for bed, a fighting man dropped over the
wall, opened the house's gate, and the men came into the yard.
36 "You, in the house!" the Warlock called, "Gray Goat, come out! You
are under arrest, for encouraging rebellion of the army. You will be
taken to The First Speaker for judgment."
37 Gray Goat and his people emerged from the house. "If you feel you
have the power," announced Gray Goat, "come and take me!" To his
friends he said "That which I told you to do, do now!"
38 "Fool!" cried The Warlock, "You cannot resist and we will cut down
anyone who tries to interfere!"
39 Gray Goat spread his arms and pointed his palms to them. "No living
person," he announced , "will defend me, only The Lords!"
