there Mad Cat and about twenty others jumped me.
Well, I thrashed them good, and when they found out I was on the run too, they asked me to join them.
68 We found this place and let the other Chieftains in, as long as they
obeyed the rules. It's worked out pretty good!"
69 "Quite a story!" remarked Swift Deer. "Women do seem to be a problem
with you!" He looked at the five or so beautiful women sitting nearby.
70 "I guarantee you," insisted The Giant, "there's not one of them that
isn't happy to be here! They're all slaves I've taken out of the caravans. Their masters weren't
treating them very well.
71 Most of the women here are well treated. Like any city we've got a
few men that mistreat their women, especially a couple of The Chieftains, but we keep it under control
most of the time."
72 Mad Cat returned and sat down. "The meeting's on," he announced,
"we'll all gather for the evening meal, then talk it over afterwards.
Take them someplace and have them freshen up." The Giant motioned to
one of his women and she came over. "I saw you making eyes at this
fella.
Go along with him. See to his needs, but take it easy. He's got a weak
heart. Put him in the big rooms down the hall. Get a couple of the
servant girls for his friends."
73 The woman smiled. "My pleasure!" she agreed. She took Swift Deer by
the hand and led him off, with Mad Cat following. The woman led him back
up to the main area first, to where a group of women were preparing
some food. She spoke to an older one, then went over to two of the
younger women and spoke to them. She came back a couple of minutes
later and asked Swift Deer, "Those two got anything catching?"
74 Swift Deer smiled. "No, and they don't have to come with us if they
don't want to anyway. You, neither."
75 The woman looked kind of disappointed. "I'm not good enough for
you?" she asked.
